Reel 112 Film Festival
While on elected D112 school board, Yumi served as Board of Ed liaison to the D112 Education Foundation. Yumi introduced her friend renowned film critic Milos Stehlik, a K-12 film educator— who co-founded Facets Multimedia and was a lifelong filmmaking education advocate— to the Foundation and she co-founded its annual Reel 112 Film Festival. This festival began as a great partnership between Milos/Facets, the Foundation, and D112 Creative Media Arts teachers, and is now a highly successful program in its 7th year! Northwood & Edgewood middle school students can now learn filmmaking skills, how to tell better stories, become more discerning about information they receive online, and participate in this festival. According to our teachers, filmmaking education positively impacts every curricular area from science and math to language arts. Several D112 student films have been accepted into national film festivals.
